Wake County Young Republicans Oppose Raleigh Patio Restriction
Raleigh, NC- The Wake County Young Republicans announced today that they would be running a paid digital marketing campaign calling on the Raleigh City Council to defeat proposed restrictions to patio seating. The ordinance, currently before the Raleigh City Council, would rescind patio permits for businesses that receive less than 30% of their revenues from food sales.
The proposed restrictions to patios are a perfect example of government regulators with a solution in search of a problem,” said Wake County Young Republicans Chairman, Clark Riemer. “Restricting patios would be a serious blow to many small businesses in Raleigh that are frequented by young Raleigh residents. Raleigh consistently rates nationally as one of the best cities for young professionals, and accessible outdoor nightlife is a big deal for us. The city council needs to be supporting small business not hampering it through burdensome regulations.”
The Wake County Young Republicans believe this is the latest in a series of actions that show that the Raleigh City Council is getting increasingly out of touch with millennial residents. Last year the Raleigh City Council heavily restricted the services of room sharing apps like Airbnb in the city. The Council also maintains heavy regulations on food trucks inside city limits. The digital marketing campaign will run through next week on social media sites Facebook and Twitter.
